The Saunders Boyz

grand-boulevard.jpg

The Saunders Boyz are a Florida-based duo made up of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Balder Saunders and his 17-year old son Rowan.

After learning mandolin at age 7, followed by guitar, upright bass and trumpet, Balder began his professional musical career at 14 touring the United States and Canada. After high school, Saunders enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving some time in New Orleans, LA, where the rich musical milieu influenced his future songwriting and playing-style, graduating first in his class from the John Philip Sousa School of Music in Norfolk, VA. Balder attended Georgia Tech where he played Trumpet in the Jazz Ensemble and performed at the Super Bowl before moving to Santa Rosa Beach in 2000. Balder is a co-founding member of Dread Clampitt, an original band in which Saunders demonstrates outstanding skill as he plays mandolin, is a lead and harmony singer as well as a contributing songwriter to the group. His skill as a writer and arranger adds the perfect amount of intellect, wit, humor, and excitement into each piece.

Rowan is following his dad's musical path as he began learning to play various instruments at a young age, including guitar, piano and drums. As a member of The Saunders Boyz, Rowan, who is Florida State University bound this Fall, is featured on electric bass, harmony and lead vocals.
